Alexander Twilight, Old Stone House and Museum, June 28th.
Alexander Twilight was a Vermonter and is believed to be the first African American to earn a baccalaureate from a U.S. college or university. From 1829 to 1855 he was the principal of the Orleans County Grammar School in Brownington, VT. In 1836 Twilight completed the construction of A four-story granite building that housed students attending his school. Back then the building was called “Athenian Hall.” Today it is the "Old Stone House Museum" and it contains many period pieces so we can see what school was like in the mid-19th century.
